Upon your arrival in Cape Town, there are a number of options for transport to your hotel or preferred accommodation. Please check with your accommodation choice first, though, as they may offer free pickup service. Cape Town’s “My CiTi” bus service travels from the airport to the Central Business District and there are a number of shuttle companies that offer similar services. A small sample is provided below for your ease of reference. There is also an information desk in the central foyer of the airport with transportation solutions.
Please note that the mini-bus taxis in Cape Town are renowned for their extreme driving skills and the trains and buses do not circle as frequently as they do in Europe. Be sure to plan appropriately for your transportation needs. We encourage you to pool together with fellow participants (reducing your carbon footprint) and book a taxi service for daily transportation to and from the event venue.
If you would like to travel by train, the closest train station to the University of Cape Town is the Rosebank station. It is on the Cape Town – Simonstown line and it is approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the station to the Kramer Law Building Middle Campus. There is also a general bus service that has a greater service area than the MyCiTi service and you can click here for more information.
Finally, UCT has a unique shuttle service, called the Jammie Shuttle. It is a fleet of 26 buses that operate between UCT facilities, as well as some public bus and train facilities. A letter of access will be provided to workshop participants on request, if you choose to make use of this service as well.
